Ever Felt Disgraced Looking In The Mirror For Being Either Skinny Or Fat??

Ever felt that “If I were fit, I would have looked great in this outfit, photo, or at a party?” What I saw in being skinny was the lack of confidence and energy in oneself.
I tried convincing myself for a long time, but convincing the mind was just the start; the struggle was to take a step and actually do something about it.
This is my fitness journey for beginners—how I went from lacking confidence to building strength, discipline, and a healthier mindset.
I DID TOO…WHAT DID I DO?
STEP 1: Fixing My Mindset – First Step in a Fitness Journey For Beginners
The very first thing I did might sound a little silly…
I went all in.
On day one, I bought the entire supplement stack and got myself a gym membership, spending nearly ₹20k–₹25k.
Was it the smartest decision? Probably not.
But did it work for me? Yes.
Because once I had put that money on the table, there was no reason for me to skip the gym. As a corporate employee not earning a lot at the time, I couldn’t let that investment go to waste, and that became my biggest motivation to show up every single day.
STEP 2: Knowledge Before Implementation
I did enter the gym… BUT I had no clue where to start being a beginner.
I didn’t know how to use half the machines, what exercises to do first, or what the best approach was to actually gain muscle.
It felt like a million questions were running through my head every time I entered the gym: Am I doing this right? Am I wasting my time? Should I be lifting heavy or light? What workout split would be better for me?
So I did what most of us do: I went down the YouTube rabbit hole.
I started watching workout videos, exercise tutorials, and even anatomy breakdowns of each move. Slowly, I learned the difference between a bicep curl and a row, why form matters more than weight, and how to build a basic push-pull-leg routine—essentials every beginner needs in their fitness journey.

STEP 3: Be Consistent
I get that a lot. I go to the gym regularly, but after a month, my motivation starts to wane.
This happened to me as well. What I did was still be present in the gym, no matter what. Motivation comes and goes, but what matters is being consistent in it. Whether with the gym or diet.
Pro Tip: On those low-motivation days, do the exercises that make you happy, the ones you genuinely enjoy. This creates a dopamine boost in your brain, which makes it easier to stay consistent and look forward to the next session.
STEP 4: Small Wins Build Big Confidence
Being in the gym can be very intimidating, especially around those big guys lifting massive weights like nothing. But remember: they didn’t come as Hulk from the start.
They were as similar as you, unsure, confused, lifting light. The only difference between them and you right now is that they stayed consistent and built discipline over time.
What really helped me was tracking my workouts every week and slowly increasing the weight over time, a method known as progressive overload.
This will help you track the small achievements, giving a boost in confidence—an important part of any fitness journey for beginners.
WHERE I AM TODAY??
I am far from perfect, but I won’t say I don’t skip the gym. I don’t crave junk food. Honestly, I do!!
But I surely am stronger, confident, and healthier than I used to be. And the best part? It’s not just about how I look anymore, it’s about how I feel.
A quote I heard recently: “ Being ready is a myth. You start. You Suck. You figure it out. You get better”. You can too; all you need is to take a step.
And that’s the truth about any fitness journey for beginners: you don’t wait to be ready, you start.
